Sprint Squad update

The KTH sprint Squad have been in action over the past week with some fine performances for the athletes.

MIDLAND AREA OPEN MEETING, NUNEATON OPEN 30TH AUGUST
17 athletes from the sprint squad travelled to Nuneaton on 30th August to compete in the open area meeting held by the Midland Counties Athletics Association. Conditions weren’t great for the sprinters as they had to deal with headwinds in all of their races. Nonetheless, they all gave it their best shot to produce some great performances.

In the U15 age group, Elizabeth Reading won her 100m race in a personal best of 13.72 seconds, while Jasmine Anderson produced a creditable run to finish 2nd in a time of 13.50 seconds.

The U17 athletes performed well with Joshua Wenje winning his 100m race in a time 12.55 seconds. Ryan Amesimeku finished 2nd in his race in a personal best time of 12.13 seconds. A truly impressive run into a minus 4.5 headwind.

Leading the way in the U20 age group was Logan Reid who just missed out on winning his 100m race, finishing 2nd to Alex Azu of Cardiff AC, in a time of 11.25 seconds. Joe Bradley also impressed in his race in which he also finished 2nd in a time of 11.71 seconds.

Veteran athletes Wilika Carr & Chris Johnson both ran well in their respective events. Wilika, competing in the 100m finished 2nd in a time of 14.35, while Chris competed in the 400m and finished 6th in a season best time of 60.32 seconds.


RUGBY OPEN 5TH SEPTEMBER
The penultimate meeting of the season proved to be a good day for the sprint squad, with 11 personal best times set.

In the U13 age group, Zane Cooper recorded a win in the 100m in a personal best of 14.3, which was only his 2nd race over the distance since he joined the Harriers. He followed that up later in the day by taking 2nd place in the 200m, his 1st race over that distance as his training has been concentrated on the 100m for this season.

The U15 age group saw Harriett Cleaver & Elizabeth Reading win their races in 13.9 seconds and 13.8 seconds respectively. Also competing in this age group was Samuel Aguilar who finished 2nd in his race in a personal best of 13.3 seconds. Personal bests were also ran by Ellie Warboys(15.2), Culley Cleaver (15.3), & William Rawcliffe (13.4).

The U15 athletes also had good runs in the 200m, with Harriett Cleaver leading the way with a win in a personal best time of 28.1 seconds, to do the double. Also running personal bests were Jasmine Anderson (27.9), Elizabeth Reading (28.2), William Robertson (27.1), Culley Cleaver (31.9).

The squad’s final meeting of the season will be at the Kettering Open on 19th September.
