The Harriers continued their amazing start to 2020 at the North Midland League finale at Wollaston park in Nottingham which saw three Age Group series champions crowned, with two runner up spots. There was a small squad was in attendance and there could have been at least two further championships secured if series leaders going into round 4, Alice Bates & Amelia McMurtrie had run the final round, sadly due to fixture congestion both had opted to rest from racing over the weekend with County schools championship coming up this weekend.
The first Championship was secured by the in-form U13 Dylan White, fresh from winning his first County championship last weekend, White secured his first North Midland League race in style finishing 15 seconds ahead of Mansfield Harrier Eddie Holden. White ran a terrific race over the challenging 3km course completed in 14:06, and has shown superb consistency over the 4 fixtures, finishing runner up in rounds 1-3, to win the U13B Championship by an impressive 13 points.

In the female U13 Jemima Davey secured second place in the Championship with a fine run for 4th place in a strong field in 13:19, Davey agonisingly missed winning the Championship by just one point, and again has shown terrific consistency finishing 1st/2nd & 3rd in previous rounds.

The U20 Men’s race secured a Championship win & runner up spot for two Harriers, Josh Cannell taking the Championship, with club colleague Jack Watson runner up. Cannell finished in 6th place on the day (64th overall in the SM/U20’s combined race) in 41:47 over the gruelling 10km course, and secured the U20’s championship title with some consistent results over the 4 rounds with 245 points, ahead of club colleague Jack Watson who finished as runner up. The league attracts high quality fields, and U20’s Cannell & Watson can be delighted to finish with a brilliant one/ two, and also finished in a highly respectable 22nd/ 33rd place in the SM competition.
The final championship was secured in the V50 category by Karen Albery who finished in first place in the V50 age category (86th place overall) in 28:53 over the 6km course. Albery won the V50 championship by the closest of margins from Desford Strider’s Mhari Billington by just 15 points, finishing in a fine 32nd place overall in the combined age group championship.

On the day there were further Harriers Junior ranks in action, in the U11B fast improving Zac Scott ran well for 10th place, and finished in 6th place in the championship overall. In the U15G race both Isabella Brockway & Niamh Sinnott were in action running well for 29th & 32nd respectively & U15 Lucas Rogers in his opening race of the year ran well for 14th place.
For the Seniors there were good performances for both the Men & Women’s teams finishing in 11th & 15th place respectively. Top scorer for the men was Luke Meyers who enjoyed a terrific race finishing in 56th place, with Josh Cannell (U20) next in 64th, Rafal Bozuk (V40) in 89th, Jack Watson (U20) 102nd & final scorer Andrew Clawson in 164th all running well, with Antony Ponsia finishing in a highly respectable 230th. Top scorer for the Senior Women’s team was Millie Cafful with a great performance to finish in 65th, with Elaine Fairbrother (V45) in 84th, and final scorer Karen Albery (V50) in 86th both running well, with Val Nix & Sam Brockway in a highly respectable 100th & 102nd place respectively.

Next up is a series of races featuring mostly the Junior ranks with a busy three weeks consecutive racing County Schools 18th Jan, Midland Counties 25th Jan, and for the qualifiers from County schools competing in the Anglian Trophy inter-Counties match on 01st Feb.
