Veterans Track and Field fixture - Nuneaton

On May 1st the Veterans Track and Field team headed to Nuneaton. The Men’s Team finished in 4th place of 8 teams and the ladies finished in 7th.

There were some fantastic results and a total of 9 club records broken. Victories on the day went to new recruit (reaching a Veterans age milestone) Chris Johnson who finished first and gained new club records in both the M35 100m 12.5 and 400m 57.5. Matt Bell also won by over 20 metres from his fellow competitors in the M35 Hammer. Matt also competed in the Javelin. A victory also for Steve Sinnott in the M50 100m 13.0 with a new club record. Steve also gained a club record in the 400m in 60.4 for 2nd. Steve also competed in the triple jump and high jump. In the same age bracket Andy Clawson gained a club record in the M50 1 mile in 5.27.7.

In the M60 age group Trevor Herring gained 2 new club records in the shot 7.18 and broke his own record in the 2k walk with 15.13.6. Trev also competed in the 100m.

In the M40 age group Nick Breeze ran a great 100m in 12.8 and also jumped 1.45 in the high jump. Matthew Watson did the 2k walk for the first time and managed to avoid disqualification (just!) and then ran well in the 400m in 67.9.

Ant Poncia was persuaded to compete in the M35 1 mile and ran well in 6.49.9. Rich Coleman M50 who was nursing an injury competed in the hammer but was unable to perform to his normal high standard.

New recruit Mike Herring in the M70 category ran well in the 100m. The 4 x 200m team of Steve, Nick, Chris and Andy finished in 3rd place just outside a club record in 1.49.0.

In the Ladies Team there were two club records - the 4 x 200m relay team of Karen Albery, Elaine Fairbrother, Chrissi Stewart and Kathy Coleman 2.26.5 and also new recruit W70 Jayne Devlin in the 100m 25.7. Unfortunately an over-officious walk judge disqualified Jayne in the final 100m of the 2k walk otherwise a new record would have been guaranteed. Jayne also competed in the shot 3.31.

Kathy Coleman finished 4th in the W50 100m 16.8, 2k walk 14.12.3 and shot 5.73. Karen Albery did W40 100m in 17.7 and the 1 mile race in 7.14.5. Chrissi Stewart ran W35 100m in 17.2 and ran a guest 1 mile 6.55.4.

Elaine Fairbrother competed down an age group in W35 400m 79.8, 1 mile 6.21.6 and high jump 1.10. Babs Poncia ran well in the 1 mile for 7.12 and 400m in 86.0. Lorna Barlow competed in the W50 Javelin 12.87 and shot 6.13.

A great opening fixture for the Veterans team and a warm welcome to the new competitors. Thank you to those officials who gave up their time and attended on the night to help out.
