Double delight for Williams!

Emily Williams was the pride of Kettering winning both the Young Sportswoman of the year award & the prestigious Kettering Sports Personality of the year at the annual Kettering sports awards, following up on the Northampton Young sportswoman award she scooped a week earlier.

This was the second successive year Williams has won the young sportswoman award at the Kettering sports awards following a magnificent year competing for the Harriers on Track, Road & Cross Country. This was also the second time she has won the sports personality of the year award, etching her name on the magnificent Arthur Nicholson Trophy in 2014 in a public vote, and this time she was voted the winner by a special judging panel.

15 year old Emily will now progress through to the Northamptonshire County Sports awards being held on 09th September, and coach Shane Smith was delighted for his talented athlete “Emily is now receiving the recognition she deserves after a stunning year, particularly on Track” he added "I’m particularly pleased she has won awards in both her home town of Northampton, and in Kettering where she has her training base at the Harriers since the age of ten". However as is typical with Emily, despite being delighted to win the awards she was slightly displeased to have missed two club training nights during the presentation evenings!

Other nominees on the night included the Harriers talented UK ranked No 2 Hammer thrower Katie Gibson, and two up and coming talents from the U11 Squad, Sprinter William Robertson who broke the 75m & 100m club records this season & Kaiden Ramsey a long and high jumper. Sadly they did not win their individual award with tough competition in all the catagories.

Congratulations to all athletes…. & we wish Emily the best of luck in the Northamptonshire Sports awards.
